The Fortaleza de Sagres, also known as Sagres Castle or Fortress of Sagres, is located in dominant crowning Ponta de Sagres , in the southwest of Algarve , in Portugal near Sagres.
This fortress was founded in about XVI-XVII century. It was ruined after tsunami and earthquake of 1755 and then rebuilt a few times after.
The fortress was an important fortification from pirates and now is recognizable from distance.
Here are two panoramas of Fortress of Sagres. The first is a frontal view from the road to it.
The second panorama is to show the fortress from inside. In the centre of the fortress’ plaza you can see the compass rose. Usually the compass circle is divided by 32 segments but this one has 40 segments. I believe this is a mistake of restorers :)
