This post is to share some thoughts about the metro in Lisbon.
The Lisbon metro was opened in 1959 and for now it has 4 lines and 55 stations. The lines can be identified by colors and logos. So, there are following lines:
- Azul – Blue
- Amarela – Yellow
- Verde – Green
- Vermelha – Red
The good thing that they have built a station near the airport. This make the life easier.
Tickets to enter the metro can be bought right before the entrance. We used magnetic cards which can be loaded with some amount of money. Every person should have his own card.
The stations are modern and clean. There are not too many people. So, I would say that the metro is very comfortable transport there.
The thing one should notice, that you cannot change the train if you missed the direction, without going upstairs and then downstairs to a platform. This was not great surprise when we did the mistake (we had all our baggage with us). But they have lifts that can help you moving your stuffs.. although we didn’t see that on every station.
I like the trains in the Lisbon metro. They are not like in Ukraine. They are modern, move smoothly. You do not feel the stop but in Ukraine you could fall if you are not held up.
The stations are decorated with stones. But I’m not really satisfied with those decoration.. although this is only my opinion..
If you want to choose in which direction you have to go you must know the last station in the line in your direction. But the good thing everything is described on boards and you may ask the metro staff for help or even people in station. They all are very friendly.
Here are some photos taken inside the metro. All the photos were made using my smartphone, so they do not pretend on any quality.
