This photo displays a view on the Santorini volcano (Ηφαίστειο Σαντορίνης) and the Skaros rock.
There is a rock in front of Imerovigli village named Skaros. This rock was one of the five fortified settlements on Santorini and was the capital until 18th century. It had a Venetian Castle built in 1207 by Marco Sanudo, the ruler of all Cyclades islands that time. Today there are just a few ruins and the small church on this rock.
The Santorini volcano is located on the small island Nea Kameni (Νέα Καμένη Θήρας). This volcano was the greatest volcano in the ancient world. Its eruption destroyed Minoan civilization 3000 years ago and its ash was found even on Australia. The latest eruption of the Santorini volcano occurred in 1956 but it was not so large. Today the volcano is active but it is not dangerous (as scientists say).
