The largest building in the Warsaw is the Palace of Culture and Science. The building was originally known as the Joseph Stalin Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki imienia Józefa Stalina).
The palace has been built in 1955 and started in 1952. It was built of stone and has 42 floors that makes it 237 m height. This building is the 187th tallest building in the world. The construction takes an area of 123 084 square meters. There are 3288 rooms in the Palace.
In year 2000, the huge clock was placed on the tower. This Millenium Clock becomes also the highest tower clock in the world.
During its construction 3500 Russians were involved and 16 of them have died.
Many Poles initially hated the building because they considered it to be a symbol of Soviet domination and some of them still think the same.
