The Parthenon (Παρθενών) is the temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena. The name comes from “parthenos” meaning “maiden”.
The building of the temple has started in 447 BCE and completed in 432 BCE.
In the V century during Christian period the Parthenon was converted to church of the Virgin Mary, and during the Latin domination it was dedicated to Our Lady as Catholic church. It was a mosque During the Ottoman period.
The temple looks very monumental and you can feel the breath of the history.
