The Temple of Olympian Zeus (Ναὸς τοῦ Ὀλυμπίου Διός) was intended to be the largest temple in the ancient world. Its constructions had been started in 6th century BC and completed in the 2nd century AD. But it was significantly damaged by the barbarians in the 3rd century AD and never recovered again. The temple is built of marble and its columns are 17 m height and 2 m in diameter.

Later its stones were used to build another buildings in Athens but the remained part is still amazing.
The Parthenon (Παρθενών) is the temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena. The name comes from “parthenos” meaning “maiden”.
The building of the temple has started in 447 BCE and completed in 432 BCE.
In the V century during Christian period the Parthenon was converted to church of the Virgin Mary, and during the Latin domination it was dedicated to Our Lady as Catholic church. It was a mosque During the Ottoman period.
The temple looks very monumental and you can feel the breath of the history.
The Propylaia (Προπύλαια) is the entrance to Acropolis. Its building was started in 437 BC but was never fully completed. The Propylaia was used in all times: it was a residence of bishops during Byzantine period; it was a palace during Latin domination and it was a residence of the military governor during the Ottomans.
Anyway it was always impressive although it was under construction during our visit.
The Temple of Hephaestus (Ναός του Ηφαίστου), also known as the Hephaisteion or earlier as the Theseion, is the ancient temple located in the Ancient Agora of Athens. This is the one of the best preserved temples. Its construction was started in 449 BC and completed in 415 BC.
The Assumption or Dormition Cathedral was built in 1820ths. It was the main Ortodox Cathedral until the Annunciation Cathedral built (1901). It is located on the University Hill. The Assumption Cathedral was the highest building in Kharkiv till 21st century. Its bell-tower has a height of 90m.
The cathedral was a few times rebuilt but now it has a very great look.. especially at night.
